In 2006 Karen discovered the wonderful world of complimentary / alternative therapies. What initially started out as a hobby and learning for self interest, has now culminated in a total career change. In 2014 Karen "retired" from her Executive Assistant role to concentrate on her studies full time and in 2016 she graduated from the Northern College of Acupuncture in York with a BSc Hons in Acupuncture.
In February 2018, Karen opened Copper Woman, a health care clinic in the Blackhall area of Edinburgh. Here Karen practices a variety of therapies including massage & acupuncture and she also teaches.
Karen is a life long learner and along with Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, she has studied Anatomy & Physiology (BioScience), Pharmacology, Oncology Acupuncture, Massage (including: Therapeutic, Pregnancy, Infant Massage, Hot Stone, On-Site and Indian Head). She has also studied: Trigger Point Therapy, Hypertonics, Cupping & Gua Sha. Karen even started training as a Doula until she found The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®.
Initially Karen attended the Self Care course (level 1) for self interest only. During this fantastic weekend however she experienced the amazing results of this modality first hand. What a life changing weekend that was! A month later Karen was in America attending the Professional Course (level 2) taught by the person whom this therapy is named after: Dr Rosita Arvigo. A year later, back to America for Certification & Advanced Pregnancy courses, both taught by Dr Rosita Arvigo. Karen has since attended Teacher Training with The Arvigo Institute and has also attended the level 1 & 2 Spiritual Healing courses in Belize with Dr Rosita Arvigo.
Karen is passionate about this work and continues to practice it. When Dr Rosita Arvigo, along with some of her devoted students, created the Abdominal Therapy Collective in 2020, Karen also joined them and shortly will be able to offer a range of exciting new courses from them.
Karen has lived in the Blackhall area of Edinburgh for over 20 years. She regularly explores the local neighbourhood with her beloved dog, Koda.
