Abdominal Massage
What are The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®?
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® originates from Belize, in Central America. This therapy (also known as Arvigo Therapy® or Mayan Abdominal Massage or Fertility Massage) is a deep abdominal massage which is great for both men and women and supports reproductive & digestive health challenges including but not limited to: painful menses, fertility challenges, irritable bowel syndrome.... the list goes on…..
For over 13 years Dr Rosita Arvigo was an apprentice to a Maya Shaman, Don Elijio Panti MBE. In his humble home, which doubled as his clinic space, he used local healing plants, copal (incense), prayers and an abdominal massage to treat thousands of patients each year. Dr Rosita would ask Don Elijio “why do you use this technique?” he would reply “because it works”. Dr Arvigo’s curiosity got the better of her and she got out her Anatomy & Physiology books to research the “why”. Following this Rosita came up with an abdominal massage a “Self Care” routine which her clients could do at home, underpinning the work she had done on them. This Self Care routine is what I will take you through when you book in for your initial appointment. Dr Arvigo also developed the full therapy working on the front and back of the body, incorporating some techniques she picked up through her years of working with both Don Elijio and other traditional healers in Central America.
Sadly I didn’t get to meet Don Elijio Panti (he died in 1998) but I have had the privilege to have been taught this therapy directly by Dr Rosita Arvigo both in America and in her home in Belize.
Rosita often says:
“The Uterus Is A Woman’s Core, If It Is Out Of Balance, Her Whole Life Can Be”.
What are the benefits of Maya Abdominal Massage?
Benefits: Increased circulation of blood, lymph, chu’lul (life force, energy, Qi, prana) into and out of the abdomen & pelvic bowl, with the aim of reducing congestion, breaking down adhesions and scar tissue and increasing circulation, nourishing & strengthening the local organs & ligaments & in turn increasing the circulation throughout the whole body.
It can take between one and three appointments (plus the Self Care work) to notice beneficial changes, however as we are all different, occasionally more sessions may be required and in some tricky cases the desired results may not be forthcoming.
Please feel free to visit www.arvigotherapy.com as this site has more information about this therapy and its traditional uses.
What to expect during your appointment:
Your first session involves an in depth consultation, the therapy itself and then you are taught a self care routine, an abdominal massage you can do on yourself at home, this underpins the work I do on you (which means you don’t have to come back and see me as often…. unless you want to, which is perfectly fine too).
Area worked on: The whole abdomen front & back, from pubic bone to breast bone, from coccyx/buttocks to shoulder blades.
Please set aside 2.5 to 3 hrs for your first appointment.
Follow up appointments last approx. 1.5hrs.
Please see section on: Cautions & Contraindications.
WARNING: Over Sharing of My Personal Health Story, Please Do Not Read this next paragraph if sensitive:
The reason I chose to do this work professionally is because of the remarkable changes that happened to my own menses. Through my own experience this therapy, along with the self care routine, sorted out the following symptoms I was experiencing: ovulation pain (Mittleschmertz), PMS, bloating, spotting dark blood before & after menses, clots, mild period pain, heaviness in pelvis & lower back ache at menses, along with constipation. All, I thought, were a “normal” I subsequently found out that all of these symptoms indicate that the uterus was not in her optimum position. After starting this therapy I had no signs & symptoms at all and healthy bright red blood. There were days when I completely forgot I was on my menses! WOW! My last menses 3 years ago was beautiful and a wonderful way to start the menopause.
